In 1911, six Franciscan Sisters left their home in Calais, France, and selflessly set sail crossing the ocean with a call to serve the people of Louisiana. The Sisters, called by God and following in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the Franciscan Sisters, responded to the call to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to God's people, especially those most in need.
Francis Medical Center is proud of its history of providing care to our community since 1913. From its modest beginning as a three-story red brick building with 75 patient beds, St. Francis Medical Center has grown to become Northeast Louisiana's largest healthcare provider and one of the largest employers in Ouachita Parish.
For nearly 105 years, St. Francis Medical Center has relied on medical science for knowledge and a more powerful source for inspiration. The dedication of our Sisters, doctors, and staff has led to a level of quality care unsurpassed in our community. Throughout our history, it is evident that the call to serve was one that our Sisters responded to without hesitation, and one that we continue to extend with compassion, care, quality and the privilege to serve.
We continue to seek guidance from a higher power and provide healing for those most in need, always delivered with a loving touch and a compassionate word, with humility and respect for all entrusted to our care. St. Francis Medical Center is not only a healthcare facility, but also a place for physical and spiritual healing. We acknowledge that all of life is a gift from God and we commit every day to improving health and saving lives.
We welcome the opportunity to serve you and your family.
